Star Wars Takes Over The World Today

Filed under: techNews — admin @ 12:50 pm

As I walked the streets today I noticed that there didn’t seem to be as many people out as their usually are. The first thing that ran through my head was that they were either at the movie theater watching “Revenge of the Sith.” I have a few friends that are die-hard Star Wars fans, and they are either in the theater as I write this, or went last night at the midnight screening.

In any event, I must confess that I prefer episodes 4 & 5 over any of the other pictures. Revenge of the Sith does look good and I’m sure I’ll see it soon enough, but I’m not about to wait in line.

What does this have to do with technology? Easy, when will light sabers exist?

Oh ya, this is just way too cool, too: a R2D2 robot

Internet Phones vs. Real Phones

Filed under: techNews — admin @ 3:03 pm

Perhaps not the most enticing headline, but I still don’t understand why many people don’t switch over to internet phone connection. The costs comparison is incredible. The service is essentially as reliable. The companies handling internet telephone service are smaller and seem to have more knowledgeable and more powerful reps handling sales and service calls. What’s the deal?

Let’s take Vonage.com, perhaps the largest VoIP. They’re basic plan, which includes 500 minutes to anywhere in the U.S. and Canada is under $15. No, this is not a paid plug for Vonage or any other VoIP. This is straight up common sense talk. The add-on features offered by VoIP’s are more and less expensive. But, the kicker that I like ## they email the voicemails to your email address…. Sweeeeeeeet!

Now for the Motorolla Cell phone plug, wait ## there isn’t one in this post ;-)

More Memory, More Money

Filed under: techNews — admin @ 2:58 pm

SanDisk has announced it will be shipping 2GB memory cards come this July. Unfortunately, we’re looking at a price tag around $350. It’s a lot of memory, but is it worth the money?

An XBox for Every Living Room?

Filed under: techNews — admin @ 5:09 pm
Have you ever wondered what they do over at Microsoft, with thousand of people working behind closed doors. We know we’ll be waiting a long time for Longhorn, a very long time. But what about that little gadget they call the XBox that seems to have made Sony wake up? Apparently that’s what they’ve been laboring over and now may have a crucial breakthrough to put a ‘box’ in every home.

I just read that XBox 360 supports the media center, and can even do HD. Any takers?

What to Make of Apple’s Tiger

Filed under: techNews — admin @ 5:05 pm

I first must say that I haven’t actually used it yet, but Tiger looks hot. I know a patch just got released from Apple, but that’s to be expected. I usually wait a little while before I buy software just to make sure the bugs are worked out, or as many as possible anyway.

The features loaded Tiger appears to be the best OS released from Apple in awhile. Jaguar wasn’t all it was cracked up to be, and Panther has its quirks. I’m assuming that Apple has remedied these issues and produced, yet again, the greatest operating system on the market.

Any comments from users?
