Yahoo! Offers Online Music Subscription

Filed under: techNews — admin @ 1:05 pm

Watch out iTunes, Yahoo! is knocking at the door. Apparently Yahoo! has struck a deal to be able to sell online subscriptions for unlimited music downloads. With Napster and Rhapsody charging well over $10 a month for their services, Yahoo! has setup shop at under $5 a month. It’s amazing! iTunes has garnered a huge portion of the legal online music downloading sector, but I suspect that will change since Yahoo! has a very devoted user base exceeding 300 million.

How many people will actually sign up for this service? I have no idea. But for $5 a month and all the music downloads you can find, why not try it for a little while anyway. The biggest drawback is that Yahoo! will not allow you to burn a CD from this service, for that you have to pay $.79 a download (Napster and Rhapsody charge as well). So, I don’t expect iTunes will lose avid users who like to be able to do what they want with what they purchase.
