Everyone Needs A Swiss Army Knife

Filed under: techNews — admin @ 9:18 pm

Swiss Army Knife with USB StorageApparently Victorinox has updated their Swiss Army knife combo that features 1GB of USB storage. The website TrustedReviews seems to think it’s the cream of the crop, so that’s what we have to go on.

It features a USB 2.0 port and 1GB of storage. But the real kicker is the great toothpick that should come with it on the Swiss Army knife side ;)

Should This Be A Podcast

Filed under: techNews — admin @ 12:41 am

As I’m sure many of you know by now, the latest version of Apple’s iTunes has podcasting support. More than that, it comes offering over 3000 podcast channels. Ah, finally a major vendor that is legitimizing podcasts… perhaps I should have made this a podcast.

“The new Podcast Directory in iTunes 4.9 features over 3,000 free audio programs, making it one of the largest Podcast directories in the world, with favorites such as ABC News, Adam Curry, BBC, Clear Channel, The Dawn and Drew Show, Disney, Engadget, ESPN, Newsweek and NPR member stations such as KCRW in Los Angeles and WGBH in Boston,” notes Apple in the announcement.

Right In The Backyard

Filed under: techNews — admin @ 11:36 am

So it seems there’s some definite controversy over the city of Burlington, Vermont developing their own Telecommunications company. Apparently a lot of time has been spent on both sides of the spectrum. The private companies that provide high-speed internet to the state’s largest city, mainly Adelphia and Verizon, for sure do not want to see Burlington Telecom enter the fold and force a bidding war or turf war. However, there are many complaints about the service received from both Adelphia and Verizon.

Personally, after living outside of Vermont for sometime before returning a few years back, I think Vermont has a long way to go to catch up to the rest of the country, and even further for Europe, in terms of the digital revolution. If more competitors, be it an actual city run division, need to jump in the fold to get companies like Adelphia and Verizon, who’ve been delaying additional rural growth throughout the state for way too long, to improve service and reduce costs, than I’m for it. The major risk is certainly with the city of Burlington if the telecom venture is a failure, but I’ll await someone’s opinion as to alternatives :)
