Christmas Cell Phone Deals

Filed under: techNews — admin @ 2:35 pm

The TV commercials have been on an awful lot for cellular plans and family phone deals. But, are the promotions really something to jump at?

As you all know, I haven’t been the happiest with my service from Unicel. But, if I were to look at a lot of the specials that are being run by major cellular carriers like Verizon, Cingular, and Sprint, I might be inclined to jump ship from Unicel. However, I’m still waiting for my current contract to end come the end of April (Woo-hoo!).

So, until then, I have to just watch the cellular phone commercials or fast-forward through them with my Tivo. But, I will keep looking for the best cell phone deals from Verizon, Cingular, T-Mobile or Sprint, but probably not Unicel ;-)

What To Think Of Microsoft’s Live.com

Filed under: techNews — admin @ 9:38 pm

It wasn’t that long ago that I tried visiting Microsoft’s recenlty launched and “buzzed” Live.com website. Supposively it’s to have all of these neat little cutting-edge AJAX functionalities. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to get it to work with Apple’s Safari and that doesn’t surprise me.

Despite being one of Apple’s top shareholders, Microsoft rarely considers the Apple platform, it seems, on their initial launches of products. Their Office suite, although it was basically on the Macintosh in the ’80s long before Windows even existed, still finds itself the last to be updated when the Redmond based company upgrades its Office package.

I guess it shouldn’t be much of a surprise to anyone. Microsoft has touted Live.com but it appears that it doesn’t like Firefox either. This may be because Mozilla’s Firefox is gaining significant traction as a web browser to use. I use Firefox when I’m on a PC and often times split my use between Safari and Firefox on my Mac.

I can get Live.com to work with Firefox on my Mac, but it doesn’t seem to work quite as well as it does on the PC.

In any event, if you want to see some really cool AJAX stuff, or need to write a note to your self for any reason, visit netscraps.com ## a buddy of mine developed it ;-)

Holiday Travel Necessities

Filed under: techNews — admin @ 11:23 am

Being in the full swing of the holidays this time of year means many things. But, most importantly it means being prepared. Here’s a check list of what one shopper should have on them at all times:

1. Cell Phone: No person, let alone a holiday shopper, should be running the streets, stores, malls, crowds without this extremely handy and essentially useful tool

2. Credit Card: Not sure about you, but I never like carrying loads of cash, it’s just way to easy to misplace, lose, or get stolen ##- atleast you’re “secured” with a credit card

3. iPod: Again, not sure about you, but the noise of chatter, registers, even cars driving in thick traffic outside can send me into more of a scrooge mood than a cheery one

4: Calculator: Most cell phones come with a calculator, but if yours doesn’t have one sure to bring one along, it’s rough being at the register when the price adds up to more than you thought

5: Electric Car Starter: Ok, maybe not a necessity, but sometimes Vermont winters are brutal and spending a hour or two inside a mall or store leaves your car in a frozen-state

Please feel free to add to the list with the comments posts!
