Does A New Year Mean A New Computer

Filed under: techNews — admin @ 1:21 am

It’s an age old question, is it not? That with the new year one should get a new computer? I firmly believe so, or atleast every 3 or 4 years anyway.

I just upgraded machines, actually haven’t completed the leap but purchased a new box. I have finally taken a step away from my (knock on wood) trusy dual 800 Mhz. G4 tower, and purchased a dual 2.7 Ghz G5 PowerMac with a sweet arsonel of features:

- 512MB DDR400 SDRAM ##- hmmm, which will need to be upgraded
- 250GB Serial ATA ## might need a new back up drive for this baby!
- 16x SuperDrive (double-layer) ##- now, that’s fast
- Three PCI Slots ##- ok, room to expand
- ATI Radeon 9650 ##- yes, it’ll power a 30″ Apple Display when I have a couple grand to drop down, but it won’t handle my already owned 22″ Apple Display with an ADC jack :-(

MacWorld News!

New Powerbooks called MacBook Pro features dual core G5 Intel chips that make the machines 4x as fast. Check them out here.

Also, they put those little Intel chips in the iMac line as well, and didn’t raise the price at all. Some really good deals on the iMacs, especially the “retiring” ones. Get the iMac specs here.

Will post more later when I have more time. Until then, try shopping for desktop and laptop bargains for your non-Macintosh computers here.
