Mac Bugs Not Much To Worry About

Filed under: techNews — admin @ 1:03 pm

According to Wired News reporter, Leander Kahney, the couple of viruses exposed in recent days reported to be harmful to the Macintosh platform have been a bit over-hyped due to the novelty of the Apple operating system and its history of not having to deal with security holes.

How much of what Kahney says is true, I’m not positive. I do know that I still feel more secure on a Mac than a Windows PC. And I’m sure that as Mac continues to become more popular, the hackers will be targeting the Apple platform for more notoriety.

I think recent reports have raised some serious concerns over the prospects of applications like the open source browser Firefox and other web tools, about virus and sercurity hole infiltration. Certainly nothing is perfect in a technology-infested world, but if one were a betting man, my money is still on the Macintosh.

Nothing Beats iPod Nano

Filed under: techNews — admin @ 9:50 pm

It amazes me sometimes how often Apple can release great products. I just picket up an iPod Shuffle for my girlfriend on Valentine’s day and I was so jealous ## I actually wanted it for myself.

I have an old 5GB iPod, one of the original generations. Don’t get me wrong, I like it and all, and it works really well still. I bought it used for like $70 so it was decent deal a couple of years ago. But it seems so big and clunky now. Probably shouldn’t be thinking this, but the day is drawing nearer when I’ll probably upgrade to the iPod Nano.

The Nano has less space, but I haven’t filled the 5GB yet ##- it’s an importing all of those CDs thing that’s holding me back. I can get an iPod Nano from Apple for less than $150. That’s not bad figuring how small and sleek it is; plus it has video :-)

Perhaps on my birthday should no one get it for me…

Rumors of New Video iPod

Filed under: techNews — admin @ 7:07 pm

Another iPod? Perhaps. ThinkSecret is reporting that it has confirmations on a new iPod video to be released by Apple.

Think Secret can confirm recent rumblings that Apple is nearing completion of a completely revamped video iPod that will shed the ubiquitous mechanical click wheel for a touch screen and will sport a 3.5-inch diagonal display.

First REAL Virus on Macintosh

Filed under: techNews — admin @ 7:05 pm

Apparantly it’s true. There is a virus that can infect Apple’s Macintosh computers running OS X. The reports are that it disguises itself as a screenshot of OS 10.5 Leopard, due out eventually by Macintosh.

By downloading the compressed zip or tgz file, it embeds itself on the desktop and appears as if it’s a JPEG but when opened it’s not. The virus also seems to target any iChat contacts and attempts to send them the flu too.

Be careful out there, it’s a jungle.
